Over the past weekend, I volunteered for NTUMS Alterisk Camp at Muhammadiyah Welfare Home. I would say it was a heartwarming experience.
This is the first time I volunteered for a programme/camp organised for the kids in Muhammadiyah Welfare Home. And for those of you who doesn't know this, MWH houses troubled kids or youth at risks. And the only time I ever experienced dealing with these kids were during my patrol days. And the were not the best to handle honestly. Their life circumstances placed them in a very... tight spot.
But behind the notorious labels, acts of toughness, and "No Fear" attitude, we, the volunteers, saw something hiding in these boys. It's the need and craving for love, affection, acknowledgement and appreciation. Don't we all want the same?

Being well-connected doesn't equate to being happy. That's a lesson the past few hours taught me. Sending off some friends for their overseas expedition 'accompanied' by some other friends wasn't much of a fun thing to do when everyone else is engrossed with their exclusive networks. I would be left all alone if not for the company of another 'outcast'. This lesson is kind of a refresher course though. I went solo the recent semester with most of the time in school spent with my self. I enjoyed it to be honest. What frustrates me is witnessing people. who come complaining to me about how abandoned they are by their friends, laughing away with their exclusive groups and abandoning others around them. But it's none of my business. Of camps and commitments

Tomorrow's Friday and the week has gone by so quickly.Since university, my holidays have always been filled with volunteering for some NTUMS camps, committee commitments, and addressing promises made during the semester (either to attend some friend's performance, or to volunteer for another friend's event). But 1 thing still doesn't really change; Friday is lepak day. |
